On the couch with Edward "Eddie" Taylor

You obviously have a passion for finance, would you share your earliest financial memory?

I remember searching for a 1930 penny when I was young. My grandfather had a collection with hundreds of pennies. I never managed to find it!

Why did you become an accountant?

I really enjoy working with people and it's a great feeling to help someone improve their financial position. I can't imagine working in a field I wasn't passionate about. People ask if I would encourage my children to follow in my career footsteps and I tell them only if they have the passion.

You mentioned you have children, do you find time to spend with them, away from the office?

Absolutely. You have to! I recently coached my son's Tball team as well as his Under 9s Footy team. Family time is really important to me. One of my favourite winter rainy day activities is watching the footy with the fire going with my family.

Do you get some "me" time in there anywhere?

Some people say I have an unhealthy obsession with golf - I prefer to think of it as another passion. I've been fortunate enough to visit some great golf courses in Australia and all over the world. Next on the agenda is Cape Kidnappers in New Zealand – I can't wait to get my clubs out.

Tell us what industry you would be working in if you weren't in finance?

Realistically I would be a Sharebroker - there are a lot of family ties there for me. However when I am singing in the office I often suggest that I should have been a wedding singer! Not sure how profitable I would be doing at that though.

And wrapping up, what will be the first thing you do when you retire?

I'll have a gin and tonic - then head out to play a round of golf!
